The early drafts of the oldest books could have been written as long ago as ~3000 years or so (when we first have evidence of a written proto-Hebrew language), though their current forms were probably compiled from older sources more like 2500 years ago or so (plus or minus a couple of centuries -- there are different theories).

And yes, opium was well known and in human use for at least 1000+ years before the bible was written -- probably much longer. It's harder to tell with psychedelics in that particular part of the world, but psychedelics in general were in use long before the writing of the bible.

There are 66 books that make up the Bible between about 2400 BC. The New Testament was completed before 70 AD -The Gospels refer to Christs prophesy of the destruction of the temple, if they were written after 70 AD that certainly would have been mentioned confirming the prophesy was fulfilled. Additionally there are several references in the Gospels that refer to landmarks being so to this very day - not possible after 70 AD because other than part of Fort Antonia the city was leveled.

I am not going to dignify your question about drugs, I have already answered you twice. There is no problem with the Bible, if read based on it's opening premise it is completely rational and logical. Don't try to blame your having a weak or undeveloped mind on the authors... Work on developing your mind instead!

Redeemed by the Blood of the Lam.." You probably should take a second look at you dates for Johns writing. One of the Epistles of Peter (which you assert was written in 60 AD) refers to John's last book "The Revelation of Jesus Christ' by name. Kind of an impossible thing if the book Peter is referencing was written 30 years later and 27 years after his death!

The oldest books originated 3000 years before Christ.

The newest books were written in the first 2 centuries after.

It is possible and likely that these things did exist I think. But what role they played in society is really not widely know. To find that answer you would have to dig deep into ancient cultures and the science of such.

    Possible? No.. certainly.

psychedelic drugs from the cactus plant had been used centuries before.

@Fireball... you don't have any logic. Writers were inspired by God... humans can hear voices that are not from God... many people can here voices in their head... you cannot prove that wasn't the case here.

I'm thinking John was on one of them when he wrote Revelation.
