DRINKING water in Mexico comes in BOTTLES...of all sizes, and it is NOT dirty. Water from the tap is NOT for drinking. Some towns do not have modern water treatment plants. In many places, the water pipes are very old and leaky. Also, in Mexico, the water is pumped from the city to the neighborhoods only a few hours a day, and in small towns, just 2 or 3 times a week. Each house, therefore has a large water storage tank on the roof, so when the city water is not on, the people can still turn on the faucet and have running water. This water in the tank can get contaminated. For these several reasons, TAP water in Mexico is NOT used for drinking. EVERYONE uses bottled water. You can have 20 gallon bottles delivered to the house each week or you can buy various sizes at tons of different stores. This info is true not just in Mexico, but in many other countries too. Many resorts and hotels in tourist areas have their own purification systems...in which case, their tap water is safe to drink.
