Because grudges are reminders, reminder of how the person can be.

People should have grudges, only reason why people don't like them is because it reminds them of what they did in the past and their friend or who ever won't let it go. Letting go of a grudge or forgiving shows that you have earned that trust back, trust that you won't ever do something of the sort every again. If they don't trust you, they will hold onto it.

Grudges are kind of like a safety system, "Remember what happened last time" sort of thing. It is up to them whether they will let go of that grudge or hold onto to it for a little while.

Some people hold grudges because of certain events that occurred in their lives. They probably hold grudges because they are either mad or sad and maybe because they hate the people that hurt them. It's probably (especially) about things that are hard to forget like someone who bullied you. YOu will or might be mad at them forvever because of what they did etc.

Because they'd rather be angry than to just move on with their lives. If someone holds grudges it keeps them in the same place and they never move forward. What a waste. Rather than hold a grude, leave the person in the dust and go on with your life. That's the best revenge.
