First of all, get rid of stuff you don't need! If you really want to go minimal try to get rid of everything but your bed, a dresser and a chair or something. Get rid of all the clutter and maybe add to the feeling with paint, a light blue, grey or green can be nice an calming. I call these kinds of colors "muddy", haha, to me that means that they are muted-I'm not talking about turquoise or lime green, more of a light antique blue or misty green. Keep accessories to a minimum. Get organized, you can stash a lot of stuff in specially made boxes under your bed, you can get bed risers from any discount store and that will give you more room under your bed to stash stuff (this could be the most expensive thing you have to buy, they're anywhere from $12 and up). Go ahead and use cheapy Walmart paint if you don't have a lot of money! You could change your mind in a few months or a year and want an entirely different color. Go to a thrift store or garage sale or something and get some nice, furniture and you can paint it cream or something. You can really do a lot with $50 if that's all you have, just look at the possibilites of the stuff you already have first. Its amazing what people have laying around in their houses, attics and garages-you just have to look around.
