What's the max ram I can update my Macbook (White - late 2007) with?

I have read I can do a max of 6 with 2 mismatched cards, (a 2GB and a 4GB), Is this correct? Is it better if I just do 4GB (2x2GB) or should I do the 6?

Thanks in advance.

Apple officially supports up to 4 GB but the system will recognize 6 GB of RAM. Go for 6 GB if you can afford it, I am on my late 2008 2.5 GHz MBP.

I thought the max for that particular model is actually 4GB.
