Life Expectancty with bad Type II Diabetes?

I know someone who is almost 60 years old, with poorly controlled type II diabetes. He is on PO meds and Insulin. His A1c is always around 10%, he eats whatever he wants, horrible high fat, and high sugar/calorie diet, has no care for himself or his life really. Lower extremities are getting progressively worse in... show more I know someone who is almost 60 years old, with poorly controlled type II diabetes. He is on PO meds and Insulin. His A1c is always around 10%, he eats whatever he wants, horrible high fat, and high sugar/calorie diet, has no care for himself or his life really. Lower extremities are getting progressively worse in terms of circulation. they are getting darker/more purple. Does not exercise AT ALL. Sits for >20 hours a day. He has had diabetes for >30 years. So I am puzzled how this person has not had a heart attack, stroke, and is still living to be quite frank etc.
