Instagram says a user doesn't exist? (it does)?

So about a week ago, my boyfriend got an Instagram. I wanted to follow him, so I looked up his username. it said the user didnt exist. he checked multiple times and said the name I typed in was correct. also whenever he tried to look me up, he couldn't find me. I can find him on anyone else's account but mine. please tell me what I can do to fix it!

He has blocked you. You can't search his username & can't see his photos.
