Why won't Instagram let me follow more than 7500 people?

I can't get any more followers If I can't follow them back so why won't I let me. Is it something I'm doing??

Because you can't really have any interest in them all - all you're doing is collecting names - rather like those on FaceBook who have over 3000 'friends'.
