What quotation marks would I use for this dialogue structure?
So, I have to write a fictional short story for my english class. This is the first time we've done fiction writing for her class, so I forgot some of the rules to writing Dialogue. One thing I'm really struggling with is determining whether to use single or double quotation marks for this type of sentence structure:
Example: "I know it was true" she said, "but it was totally uncalled for." Is that how I would right it? I'm confused on how the structure is when a characters Dialogue is interrupted by saying who is speaking.
Another example: "Why must you be so annoying?" he exclaimed, "I don't remember doing anything to make you act this way"
Also, when dialogue is done, do you put the punctuation mark inside or outside the quotations? Thanks!

"I know it was true , " she said, "but it was totally uncalled for."
You only use single quotes when there is a quote within a quote.
marks go inside other punctuations .. period etc.
