the draft caused problems for those not wanting to fight, no matter

what nation they are from, no matter when.

And interestingly, you did not even stipulate 'during the US

civil war" as many nations have civil wars.

a lot of kids had the choice of prison or war. Many of those

who would have been free by 1947, if they had gone to prison, are dead because of Italian or German war apparatus.
