You didn't do anything wrong. It is a Yahoo problem. A Yahoo Staffer said that they know about the problem and are trying to fix it. You have to wait.

This issue has been resolved by our engineers and you should be able to delete your Yahoo! Messenger Conversation History from your Yahoo! Mail account once again.
