Because the author said so.
This is not (yet) a question about space travel, since warp speed is not physically possible (except on TV and in movies).
What is true: objects cannot travel through space faster than the speed of light. The trick used by the original author was to simply warp a bubble of space around the ship and cause this bubble to travel outside normal space. The ship, inside the bubble, is NOT traveling faster than light, relative to its local space (inside the bubble) and as far as the bubble is concerned... well there are no rules for things that cannot exist in reality, so who cares.

this is inevitable. The ship must exist in its own space-time for it to function ... same with its crew. This ''bubble'' is composed of "normal" space-time.
