    Sure he was. He led a rebellion against the government of Samuel K. Doe in late 1989. The rebels were known as the National Patriotic Front of Liberia (NPFL) and led by Charles Taylor. In 1990 the rebellion developed into a civil war. The NPFL also fought against another rebel group the Independent National Patriotic Front of Liberia (INPFL). In 1990 West African peacekeeping forces were sent to Liberia and gained control of the capital. In 1996 the warring factions signed an agreement ending the civil war. Taylor was elected president in 1997. More than 200,000 Liberians had died in the war. I hope that this has been a help to you.
