What does ach du lieber mean?
- ChefaoLv 77 years agoFavorite Answer
It's a common euphemism in German meaning - Oh my Gosh or Good Heavens or Dear Me.

It depends a little on the context. Is "lieber" the last word?
Ach Du lieber Schwan is like Oh my gosh, or Ach Du lieber Gott=OMG
Ach, Du Lieber without any other ending means (to a man), translated freely:
Oh, you're really kind. Oh, it's you my friend

Well i am German have an american buddy who makes use of this time period (wherever he picked it up) however I trust "tine" from eight years in the past. "Ach du Lieber" it's a very unique expression, as there is a noun missing. More normal would be Ach du lieber Himmel (would translate to for example "heavens!") or Ach du lieber Gott (may also be translated to "Oh my (expensive) God!) off course Germans comprehend "Ach du Lieber" ordinarilly as "Oh expensive!" but this doesn't make it correct.
