Difference of having a profile picture of a pink equal sign with a red background and a rainbow background?

I think the pink equal sign means specifically that the user is identifying their support for lesbian/gay rights and may particularly be identifying themselves as a lesbian whereas the red background with rainbow is just all around all gay, lesbian, bisexual, ect equality.
