God created mankind to have a relationship with Him, but He wants to chosen and loved just as much as we want to be chosen and loved.
Every relationship has boundaries, things we should not do to hurt the other person. People, from the very beginning, have always chosen to disregard God. The first time it happened, when Adam and Eve decided to diss God, they broke that perfect relationship and they couldn't un-do what they had done. Everyone, since, has been selfish and unloving and has rejected the boundaries of a healthy relationship with their Creator.
Like a gentleman, God doesn't push himself where he isn't wanted. But the story of the Bible is actually the story of how God has reached out to people who long for a Him, and how he unfolded his plan to restore the healthy relationship that we are incapable of fixing. Over and over, the message is clear: if you long for Him, if you believe what He says, he values that longing and trust. He has spent hundreds of years seeking out people to share his message of restoration, and he has always longed to bless the whole world through the people who follow him. He has carefully intervened in history with promises and prophecies so that anyone who cares to look more closely will see CLEARLY that He is who He says He is and that He has done and He WILL DO all that He has promised. The birth, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ - and any person's willingness to believe what God says about that - is the way back to a restored relationship with God, and a connection to the longing that fills every human heart. Simple - all we need to do is to acknowledge that yes, we have not respected the boundaries in our dealings with God (aka sin) or even with other people. We have not loved Him or others with our whole heart. And we need to believe that Jesus is God's chosen means for our restoration - we don't have to understand exactly WHY it had to be this way, we only need to respect that it was important to HIM to do it this way. For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son so that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have life everlasting. He gives you a clean slate. He gives you righteousness that you never could earn on your own. He makes you his child, and fills you with his Holy Spirit, and you can choose to walk in an exciting and fulfilling new relationship with Him and with the world, knowing that He will help you along the way.
We can also choose to either NOT enter that relationship, or not to pursue it even if we believe in what Jesus did. When we take either of those two paths, humans have the potential for huge evil, and often chooses evil in small and large ways that cause all the pain and suffering. Sometimes the evil starts as mere selfishness, and not paying attention to what God wants - and it leads to devastation. A life out of sync with God is always trouble.
So what is the purpose of human living in this world? Our purpose is to know our Creator and to enjoy Him forever, and to be in a relationship with Him. He longs to be the loving parent, loving brother, loving friend who can help and guide us, comfort and inspire us. He wants to be in a healthy relationship in which we tell the truth to him in all things, and listen to his promptings. When we tell God the truth about Himself, back to Him, that is worship. When we help widows, orphans, the homeless and the imprisoned, and when we seek justice for the oppressed, and do it because God wants it - that is worship. When we want to share with others the truth and greatness of God so that they can know and enjoy the truth about Him, too, that is glorifying God. And while "glorifying God" may seem like a weird goal to have, it really grows on you once you get into a relationship with Him.
I hope you find Him! He is the reason you exist, but it is up to you to make the choice to learn more, to believe, to not believe, to embrace the relationship, or to reject it.
