Details? You left out too much, but let's guess. You've been ordered to make restitution for whatever, you claim you are retired, judge says "load of hoo-ee - get to work & earn the money to make restitution as ordered." Sure he can.
Community service to "work off" a suspended sentence - you betcha.
Child support, and you claim you're "retired?" Judge will crack nuts over that one as you are legally obligated to support your minor child, and no way out of it.
Judge might not be able to order you to do a specific job for specific company/organization (except community service - you do as you're told, and no argument), but he certainly can tell you that you have X# days to find a job earning enough to fulfill whatever legal obligations you may have.
