    Hello,

As a fan of Hansberry and A Raisin in the Sun, I was happy to answer this question for you.

Hansberry’s father, Carl Hansberry, filed a lawsuit that challenged segregation that eventually came before the United States Supreme Court. He won the lawsuit, although segregation still continued in some areas.

This biography of Lorraine Hansberry mentions the lawsuit. It is found on AP Central’s website:

    http://apcentral.collegeboard.com/apc/members/cour...

Here is another article featured on the University of North Carolina’s Civil Rights webpage:

    https://lcrm.lib.unc.edu/blog/index.php/2012/11/12...

Last, the National Archives in Chicago lists all of the lawsuits and civil action case fields related to Hansberry and her family:

    http://www.archives.gov/chicago/finding-aids/civil...

I found the above information by searching <Lorraine Hansberry lawsuit> in Google.

I hope this answers your question. Clearly, these events influenced the author’s life and works.
