Some names derive from actual things affiliated with their location or history. If you're talking about American Football, The Steelers have their name because of how Pittsburgh was a town that specialized in making steel. Or just like in Australia, the Rugby team is named the wallabies, simply because of the fact that Australia's animal icon is the Kangaroo/Wallaby
