Grand Canyon Airplane Tour?
I originally wanted to take a helicopter ride but I think I'd be nervous the whole time. So, I'm going with airplane tours to the West Rim. Is this a good idea? Or should I take a bus?

I tend to favor helicopter tours to the Grand Canyon. They fly at a lower altitude and, in the case of the West Rim, they can land at the bottom. If you go that route, here'a link that explains such options:
There are a ton of great airplane tours out of Las Vegas. Types are air or landing (similar to helicopter). Here's a list of options...
Lots of folks think these are small planes but in actuality they hold 19 adult passengers and are extremely stable in nearly all weather conditions. Further, they are customized for sightseeing, and include oversized windows, lounge-style seats and lots of personal space.
Lastly, if you end up going with a bus tour, note that these trips typically range from 13 to 15 hours, depending on which rim you visit (e.g. West Rim or South Rim). Start here as your research bus tour options:
That should get you started in the right direction, and I hope u have a great experience.Source(s): http://www.grandcanyondaytrips.com

Well since you asked....I would say none of the above. My advise is to rent a car and drive to the Grand Canyon National Park. Spend a few days there. Hike a few of the trails, enjoy sunrise and set over the canyon, maybe take a mule ride down into the canyon, stay in one of the historic lodges.
Its hard to really enjoy the Canyon on a day trip from Vegas. The West Rim is all part of an Indian Reservation and is a huge tourist trap. The best views are inside the National Park. Helicopters and airplanes are not allowed in the National Park..

the air tours do not go over the main canyon, because the noise disturbs those who can be arsed to get out of the car and go for a walk.
so go to the south or north rims and get out of the car.

Take the helicopter, helicopters are cool. I avoided them until my wife finally got me in one at Iguazu Falls in Brazil. Now I get in one at every opportunity. It's great when the pilot just stops in mid-air so you can take pictures. We got some great pics of the lava flows on Hawaii. You must try it!
