In a free society, would assisted suicide be legal?

To prevent A person from injuring themselves from lack of proper knowledge on how to out themselves properly, Would Doctor assisted suicide be legal for those in psychological/physical pain?

There would be 3 Criteria the patient would have to meet:

1) (s)he would have to have tried 3+ months of therapy & counseling before making decision,

2)(s)he would have to be 21+ years of age

3) (S)he would have to have a psycho analysis, to see if they,re in the right frame of mind to make an informed decision.

    Yup

The idea that suicide is illegal implies that we are owned by the law. The government governs us, but doesn't own us. We put down our dogs when their life is too painful to watch as their health fails. Why can't humans be given the same respect?

The regulations you suggest are nice ideas, but the world of psychoanalysis and counseling are so imprecise, that government regulation that utilizes them will almost be guaranteed to be a mess. Maybe the only regulations would be a sufficient will.

You have the freedom to kill yourself, whats stopping you? Fear? Why put the burden on law makers? I understand its humane to end the life of someone who is on their way out, AIDS, cancer etc. and in those situations yes, but depression? No. The idea of a law designed to kill people by the masses just seems flat out genocidal.
