Adopting Russian kids, WHY?
Recently the Russian president banned Americans from adopting Russian orphans and everybody seems to have their panties in a wad over his decistion but what I can't wrap my head around is this:
Why adopt Russian kids? We have tons of kids in foster homes "begging" to be adopted. It's not like Russian kids are adopted in good condition, on the contrary, many are in pretty rough shape when them come here, foten requiring medicat attention. they come from troubled backgrounds, usually from drug users and such.
Is it the novelty thing? It's not like we have a shortage of orphans here. What drives these Americans to adopt kids from abroad instead of helping out the local foster homes?
Your take please

Because the Russian orphans don't have a great life is the very reason why they need to be adopted more than American kids. Many Americans also adopt disabled children from Russia. The orphans and children up for adoption in the US lives in foster homes with parents and they have lives with their rights protected, food on the table etc. Disabled children in Russia ends up in institutions and that is now the faith for the ones that was just about to be adopted when the ban started. The waiting list is also shorter in Russia.
And regarding their background - where do you think American kids come from? Parents abusing drugs is often the case when the child is not given up voluntarily.
And Europeans adopt older American kids.

Are you talking about older youngsters? I've heard of some, conveniently considering that these youngsters HAD families in Russia. However the households were bad and might not maintain them. And of path, these children omit their families. As for infants / youngster I do recognize many who have adopted children like this. Again, most are not orphans. However, they have got beginning defects in order that they had been grew to become over to the orphanages. A disgusting truth, Russia can pay father and mother to turn over their disabled child to the state. These kids undergo horribly in very poor state care, and once they age out round age 7-10 they go into the state intellectual associations. The 'cute ones' get on worldwide adoption pages, and are positioned in a better crew dwelling. . Now why not adopt American? Due to the fact of the hoops you bounce though to get good enough's for adoption + the dearth of kids. The FOSTER CARE process has 1000s of children desiring temporary homes. The adoptive procedure has fewer kids, however many in the system are very screwed up too. In our state, we were instructed there are 12 girls that meet our criteria (age 9 and underneath), as that is what we would like as a great fit for our household. That list is now down to three girls. That is it. The others had so much baggage (sexually abused, one was once used as a prostitute at age eight, some had siblings or grandparents we had to hold in contact with).

I can think of two reasons:
1) Russian kids tend to be Caucasian. More white people want to adopt and they want their kids to look like them.
2) Kids from another country have a very small chance of ever locating their biological families. If one adopts from Russia, for example, s/he can pretend to be the child's biological parent and no one outside the family is ever the wiser.
Pretty sick, huh?

Many Americans are insecure and concerned with their image. They think that adopting foreign kids makes them more global and tolerant. It is a very pompous and irrational thing to do.
