Do you eat boiled eggs in your gumbo?

I made some gumbo recently for a party and a lady was here and said she likes her with hard boiled eggs in it. I have never heard of this.

No, I haven't tried that. Doesn't sound like something a native Texan would do, TexasMom. I guess she's used to a New Orleans/Louisiana style gumbo..where some toss in everything.

If I saw boiled eggs floating in my gumbo I would think it was that soup that contains sheep's eyes

    and I would be upset.

Although I do love Egg-drop soup.

Yep..she was talking about a Louisiana-style gumbo. Here's a couple of recipes (they look kind of good, actually) for shrimp & boiled egg gumbo, southwest Louisiana chicken & sausage gumbo (with boiled eggs)..Cajun style. style shrimp & boiled egg gumbo recipe~

(says one can use squirrel, ham, rabbit, game and/or any seafood): louisiana chicken & sausage gumbo recipe

(with hard boiled eggs): everything gumbo:

peanut oil, a roux, chicken, sausage, green onion, parsley, thyme, okra, shrimp, dried shrimp, whole fresh crab, crayfish, pork, rice, hard boiled eggs

(and anything/everything else one likes in their gumbo, the spicier the better)

    Agree with all the rest.

I could only think that it is done like when you make fried rice, or egg drop?

Drop some lightly wisked egg into the gumbo just before serving.

It actually sounds weird to me for a gumbo recipe, but I will try it, hell, why not?

Could be the best thing ever, I like eggs and I like Gumbo!!!

I don't generally make it that way, but I have had it and it was surprisingly good. The eggs are already hard boiled when you put them in the gumbo, so it's not like they're stringy, like egg drop soup. The flavor they pick up while stewing in the gumbo is fantastic and the yolk gets creamy inside 😋

Also, Texans should stick to chili 😉

Absolutely not! Unless you are trying to be creative or something, go ahead with your bad self. You may as well have egg drop soup.
