Help with a chemistry problem?

You have been given a sample of an unknown

substance. You find out that it does not

dissolve in water, has a very high melting

point and conducts electricity when molten.

The substance is probably

    I would have to say 3 is the correct answer. It is octane and that does not dissolve in water. Octane is a non-polar molecule and only polar molecules dissolve in water.
