How do you count stereoisomers and constitutional isomers?

For example, the question I have is how many isomers(constitutional and stereoisomers) are possible for C4H8? I know the answer is 6, but I don't know why.

    You just have to start drawing them out.

    but-1-ene

    (E)-but-2-ene

    (Z)-but-2-ene

    2-methylpropene

    cyclobutane

    methylcyclopropane

    Obviously.

    Let's see if you're right. An alkane would be CnH(2n+2);

    an alkane would be one hydrogen molecula short of that,

    or CnH2n.

    C4H8 could be a C-4 alkene, where you have your choice of

    1-butene, 2-butene (cis and trans), isobutene.

    Could also be...have the same formula as...cyclobutane or methyl cyclopropane.

    I don't know where you got six, but I could be overlooking something.
