How to say this without using a linking verb?
I'm not allowed to use linking verbs in this essay. I'm trying to say, "No mentally sane person would ever believe Helter Skelter....................." the rest isn't important.
If you can come up with a way to express that thought without using a linking verb you will get 10 points, thanks

You don't have a linking verb in the part of he sentence you quote..
Your verb is believe, which is transitive
Linking verbs are verbs like is, are, become, appear, seem etc.Source(s): lang spec

There isn't a linking verb in your quote, and you say the rest isn't important. The verb is "would believe," and it's transitive, not linking. It's hard to know what you want.
