Windows 8 not playing video files?

Ok, i got a new desktop today with windows 8. i used fraps to make a short test of minecraft and saved the file. when i try to play it it takes me to the xbox video app for some ungodly reason and says the file format isn't supported and to check the store to See if the item is there. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Change the default player to Windows Media Player or your favorite media player.

    On the start screen type default program.

    Click the set your default programs link.

    On the left side of the window select your media player of choice. Then click the Set this program as default button.

    Your videos should now open with your new default player.

    Download vlc player then right click on your video an click open with and vlc player

    You should download VLC media Player
