The seismic activity is up again, this time more than normal and compared to the swarm in Aug. Do you think California will experience a big quake similar to Chile or Japan or China

California has between 200 and 800 quakes per week, 441 in the last week. Nobody has any idea when one will hit, or where, or how big, except in general tendencies. Hollister, Parkfield, and Coalinga all claim to be the earthquake capital of the world.

Well California is on a fault line so its really not when one will happen but how bad, it will probably have an earthquake soon like it does, but i doubt it will be too bad, plus California is very prepared for earthquakes so there wont be a lot of damage compared to the other earthquakes.

California has many small, almost unnoticeable quakes. Mostly rattles since it's near a fault line. But I doubt that there will be a Japan-like earthquake too soon.

The USGS keeps saying that a big one is inevitable. They just don't know whether it will happen in one week or 30 years. It's best to just be prepared.
