Can I self-program a smartphone's universal remote application to get around device compatibility issues?

Hi Yahoo!

I just bought the Panasonic SC-BTT370 Home Theater System (http://shop.panasonic.com/shop/model/SC-BTT370) as an open box sale (as-is). In this condition all the included parts were in perfect working condition, though there was some equipment missing including the remote. Now, I know that Panasonic sells these remotes separately, but they also have a free smartphone app called Panasonic Theater Remote 2012 (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.... that is downloadable from Google Play and is able to operate as a remote directly from my Samsung Galaxy SIII. Unfortunately, the SC-BTT370 is not compatible with this application though it is with several other models within their home theater line.

My question: is there a way to hack into the programming of the application and tweak it with the possibility of making it work for my system? Would I need certain software, information etc.? I’ve always enjoyed tweaking with electronics and it sounded like a fun idea, though I’m not sure if there’s any possibility it could work even in the slightest. If you have any helpful ideas or suggestions I’d love to hear them!

Thank you!
