Rhizobium mutualism with plants?

I know that rhizobium is a nitrogen fixing bacteria and it provides nitrogen for the plant but what does the plant do for it to make it a mutual symbiosis?

The plant can supply a carbon source (e.g. malate) and/or essential amino acids (e.g. Leucine and Isoleucine). The nitrogen fixing bacteria supplies the plant with a nitrogen source (e.g. NH4+) and sometimes amino acids (e.g. Alanine) in return.
