Solar energy is the primary energy source for our planet Earth. It supplies our food, it gives us rain and wind and it created the fossil fuels that we use for energy. Nuclear energy, some geothermal energy and tidal energy are exceptions.

Solar panels can be photovoltaic and give us electricity. They can also be solar thermal panels which provides energy as heat. Solar thermal panels are being used to provide hot water for washing, and heating our houses and pools. Solar thermal energy can also be used for air conditioning and with commercial solar collectors electricity can be made.

Solar panels are often put on rooftops but can be placed on separate stands on the ground.

Solar panels are growing in popularity with government incentives but require an initial investment that pays for itself over time. It is more difficult to make these kinds of decisions when they are uncommon. Most people are not yet considering solar options although they have heard of them.

Solar energy is very powerful but the energy is diffuse. More energy can be captured with more area used for solar panels or collectors. The effectiveness of solar energy might be measured by its cost compared to alternatives. Solar energy is now comparable with peak daytime power consumption in some places. In some remote settings it is very effective as options are limited. Solar photovoltaic panels are as high as 42% efficient in the lab but commercial units are about 24% efficient. Some solar thermal collectors are from 60 to 80% efficient. The most efficient solar method to make electricity is presently using parabolic dish collectors and a stirling engine.1 (Photosynthsis is about 5% efficient.)

Some methods of solar collection includes a built in storage of energy. A solar chimney can be build to run day and night indefinitely.2 Most solar collectors without some built in storage will produce no energy at night and a limited amount on cloudy days.

Solar energy - Power from sun.You can make the solar power work in various ways.

    1. The photo electric effect

    2. Focused sunlight heating up water or some other heat bearing substance.

    3. Photosynthesis producing plants from which we can extract energy

    4. The sun evaporating water which goes up in the the sky and falls down filling rivers, lakes etc from which we can make hydro-electricity.

    5. Solar inverter - reduced the power bill to a great extent

    6. Solar cooker - uses no fuel and cost nothing to run.

    7. Solar car - solar vehicle used for land transport.

Almost all the energy in use today are from solar energy. Fossil fuels are chemically stored solar energy captured by photosynthesis millions of years ago. Biofuels are chemically stored solar energy captured by photosynthesis recently. Hydro power is from the evaporation of water by the Sun and the subsequent precipitation at higher altitudes. Wind power is from the uneven heating of the atmosphere by the Sun. Wave power is from the interactions between a liquid body and the wind. The only sources of energy that we have that are not directly linked with the Sun are Nuclear, Geothermal and Tidal.

Solar energy is heating my home right now. Passive solar, that is. I have about 130 square feet of insulated glass doors and windows that face south. When the sun shines, from about 10 am to about 4 pm, my furnace does not come on. The passive solar heat lifts the inside temperature by 4 to 5 degrees F. The furnace then does not come on again until about 8 pm.

Solar energy can be used in many ways.

It is a renewable source and can be used for heating or power.

Solar energy can power homes and can be used to have heat.

To get electricity from solar panels you need to first have solar panels.

First the electricity will be DC and to convert it to AC you will need a inverter.

You need to convert it to AC so it can power stuff like the fridge.

You can also have a battery bank so you can save the electricity for night time use.

You can also connect it to the grid so you won't have to have a battery.

Also if you are still connected to the grid then you can get money from your utility for the electricity you don't use.

Solar energy is the primary and necessary energy in the earth.Firstly,no matter animals.plants and human, they can not live without solar energy. And then, solar energy can be converted into heat energy and electrical energy nowadays which can be used into almost everthing required electricity.solar panels and solar vacuum tube can absorb sun rays and then convert it to required energy on physic and chemical effect.

Solar energy can be used in several ways.

Passive solar energy is basicly using the heat from sunshine. It can be used to diretly heat water, your home (as in heating the solid materials of home construction) or the air. Many methods of using passive solar heat have been devised.

Active use of solar energy will include solar cells to generate electricity, or using pumps to circulate solar heated water. Again, many other ative solar heating methods have beeen created.

Solar tubes are a natural "passsive" method that is also an active heating method due to the non-energy consuming method of moving solar heat from one location to another. They can be used for both heating and for cooling.

Using fans to move heat from a storage mass to the area where the heat is needed makes a hybrid system where active devices ae used to move passively gathered solar energy from one place to another. (As is the case with some of the examples listed above.)
