Is a tiny portion of San Francisco not on the Peninsula?

I was looking on google maps and it looks like a very small portion of the alameda naval complex has San Francisco city limits. What is the story behind that?

    You are correct. A part of Alameda Island is part of the City and County of San Francisco. as is all of Treasure Island, the Farallon Islands, and Alcatraz.

    If you look at the outline of SF you'll see that it extends way into the Bay and was drawn not based on the coastline but what appears to be specific Lat/Long coordinates. These were likely made long enough ago that they didn't realize they snagged a piece of land on the other side of the Bay. It is what it is now....
