My baby was exposed to shingles? shes a preemie!Should i worry?

    Yes. Talk to her Dr. Preemies do not get the benefit of transplacental immunity & you can catch chicken pox from shingles. (Transplacental immunity is mom's shared immunity with baby & happens in the last trimester & since that gets cut short for preemies it is incomplete). It is of some benefit if you are nursing her though & hopefully you have immunity. Shingles is LESS contagious than actual active chicken pox as it is not a respiratory infection the way varicella is the first time you get it. Even so, it is contagious to those who are not immune.

    Ask her pediatrician and in the meantime just pay attention to any changes. As a mother, there's never a time you don't worry.
