Math word problem with batting average?
Joe and marc play baseball for the same two years (and only those 2 years). The first year Joe has a higher batting average. The second year Joe has a higher batting average again. Who has a higher batting average overall?
No matter what you do Joe should have the higher average but my teacher gave it as an extra credit problem and says there is a lot of math involved to get the answer. Is there something i'm missing?

This is one of these problems where the relative weights have changed and the years don't get weighted identically between the two players. Here is one way Marc has a higher two year average.
Player _ Hits _ At Bats _ Average
Joe, Year 1 _ 1 _ 10 _ 0.100
Marc, Year 1 _ 40 _ 403 _ 0.099
Joe, Year 2 _ 2 _ 6 _ 0.333
Marc, Year 2 _ 199 _ 600 _ 0.332
Joe, Total _ 3 _ 16 _ 0.188
Marc, Total _ 239 _ 1003 _ 0.238
