    Unit price (Price of 1 lb of beef stew) = (89) / (1 1/2) = 59.33 cents

    Longer solution:

    1 1/2 lb 89 cents

    1 lb Z cents

    >> Z x (1 1/2) = 1 x 89

    So:

    >> Z = (1 x 89) / (1 1/2) or (1 x 89) / (3/2) = 59.33 cents
