Is natural selection the only way a species can evolve?

BQ: Is it possible for humans to evolve beyond our current state? If so, how?

This is not homework, I just think this is a good category for it.

No, genetic mutations can also lead to evolution.

Science so far insists that natural selection is the only way. Witness the controversy over Creation Science. Some hold that big jumps in the characteristics of some species cannot possibly be from natural selection, but the jury is still out.

However, when one considers some attributes of humans, such as increasing obesity, then its clear that a substantial portion of the human race is evolving in a way which is in no way due to natural selection. Maybe even in spite of it, as obese people have a lower life expectancy than others.
