    D) because endosymbiotic hyp. implies that the mitochondria was a separate cell which 'fused' with other cells to become eukaryotic cells.

    As quoted by wikipedia

    "According to this theory, certain organelles originated as free-living bacteria that were taken inside another cell as endosymbionts. Mitochondria developed from proteobacteria"

    so A, because mitochondria are taken in by bacteria so they have to be smaller. Get it?
