Estelle v. Gamble decision (10 points!)?

I'm reading the case and I am having some trouble understanding the outcome of the case.

What exactly did the majority decide on? Was Gamble's case a violation of the "cruel and unusual punishment" clause of the Eighth Amendment? Or was it held that it wasn't.

Nope - under the facts of this case medical malpractice is not cruel and unusual.
