下面這句話中．為何用 "using". 文法上要如何解釋?是省略了什麼字嗎？謝謝
A team of U.K. researchers has been able to isolate such TB sequences from an old skeleton using new rapid DNA sequencing.

This sentence can have two situations:
(1)omit "which uses" and replace with "using", then "which uses
new..." (relative clause,關係子句) is used to describe "TB
sequences". "using new ..." is a participle phrase (分詞片語)
A team of U.K. researchers has been able to isolate such TB sequences from an old skeleton which uses new rapid DNA sequencing.
(2)omit "by", then "by using ..." (介系詞片語) is used to
describe "isolate". However, usually, when using "by", it
is SELDOM omitted. Hence, it is unlikely to omit "by".
A team of U.K. researchers has been able to isolate such TB sequences from an old skeleton by using new rapid DNA sequencing.
No matter which way it is, the important thing is to understand the context and get used to this kind of sentence structure. The grammar portion is the second priority. After all, there are many ways to write this sentence, and they can all mean about the same. Yet, they might all employ different grammar rules.

master Louis! "which uses ..." describes a SPECIFIC method, so it is better NOT to use "non-restricted" (with",").Source(s): self

後面的子句是一個sentential relative clause，應加上逗號。此種關係子句是以前面整個主要子句為先行詞，而非其中的某個字或片語。
