The Word of Wisdom is a law of health revealed by the Lord for the physical and spiritual benefit of His children. On February 27, 1833, as recorded in section 89 of the Doctrine and Covenants, the Lord revealed which foods are good for us to eat and which substances are not good for the human body. He also promised health, protection, knowledge, and wisdom to those who obey the Word of Wisdom.
5 That inasmuch as any man drinketh wine or strong drink among you, behold it is not good, neither meet in the sight of your Father, only in assembling yourselves together to offer up your sacraments before him.
6 And, behold, this should be wine, yea, pure wine of the grape of the vine, of your own make.
7 And, again, strong drinks are not for the belly, but for the washing of your bodies.
To me, "pure wine of the grape of the vine" means grape juice. Not fermented grape juice which has turned into wine...
Our prophets have said that we are not to drink any drink containing alcohol. And when the prophet speaks, it comes from the Savior, so... I follow it.
My view of Christ turning the water to wine - was it alcoholic? Was it "bad"? I don't know. I believe He did it. But I also believe then was a different time. Maybe it was not the same as "today's" alcohol. I don't know. All I know is that I trust my Savior to know what is best for me and if He tells the prophet alcohol is bad NOW, then it is.
