Would an apple seed grow in a cup with a wet paper towel?

If it does how long would it take to sprout a stem or a leaf?

You can often start seeds that way, or by planting the seed in a paper cup with soil (make sure you poked a hole in the bottom so it drains).

However, apple seeds need to be cold stratifyed for 2-3 months before they will break dormancy and sprout. You'll have better luck with an orange seed.

It might sprout a rootlet and maybe a seed leaf, but there's not enough nutrient available in a paper towel to support a true stem, and it will eventually shrivel.

    That's called germinating a seed.
