Can someone help me understand this chemistry joke?

"Potassium and Oxygen got into a fight... it was a knockout."

I told my chem teacher the joke about potassium and oxygen going out on a date and it going ok, and he told me that this joke makes better sense and if I can explain what it means he will give me extra credit. Can someone help me? I have no idea. And please be specific.

Update:

omg I love you guys! thank you so much!

The chemical symbol for Potassium is K and the chemical symbol for Oxygen is O

    So KO = knockout

The slang term for a knockout in a boxing match is KO.

I'll agree with Steve and Annie, and provide you with more chemistry humor:

    Poor little Johnny,

    Johnny is no more,

For what he thought was H2O,

    was H2SO4.

(And now, you will never forget the formula for Sulfuric Acid!)
