Why does my Mac keep telling me I need to restart my computer?

Every so often, my screen on my Macbook pro turns to black and a grey message pops up saying that I need to restart my computer. Does anyone know why this happens or how to stop it?

It is called a Kernel Panic. Something is upsetting the Mac at its heart and it cannot do anything to correct things and so it needs to restart.

It may be some software you are trying to use that needs to be updated or some hardware that you are connecting to the Mac (camera, printer etc.) that is causing the problem.

Are you always doing the same thing when it happens? If so that is what needs fixing.
