Before you apply to multiple loans, do research on three or four companies that you're interested in learning more about. A low rate is great, but if a company doesn't have a mortgage process that works with you and takes a long time to close, than you sacrificed a lot of your time for a low rate.
If you want a lender that has cutting edge technology and tools, than look for that in your search. If you'd rather sit down face to face with a banker, make sure they can do that for you. If your lender doesn't provide the service you need, then going through the mortgage process will be difficult.
Once you find a few companies you like, just call their mortgage bankers and talk with them. Remember, don't feel pressured to commit to the first company you call. You have the right to shop around.
