Planning a vacation for 2013, need help...?
Will be traveling through Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Kentucky and Tennessee. There will be 2 15 year old girls on this trip. Questions are: what to see, what to do, where to go. The trip originates and ends in Louisiana and will either be 1 week or 2 weeks long. Want this trip to be a great memory maker.
If only 1 week, the trip will be shortened to Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee.
I recently completed vacation 2012. Spent 12 days on the road: Texas; State capital, The Alamo, Luckenbach, McDonald Observatory, wind-power farms, Bureau of Engraving and Printing, The Stockyards, CR Smith American Airlines Museum / New Mexico; Carlsbad Caverns, White Sands, Gila Cliff Dwellings, Very Large Array, Sandia Tram, Trinity Site, International Balloon Fiesta, Petroglyphs, Bradbury Science Museum, State capital, Santa Fe Geo Challenge, Taos Pueblos, Rio Grand Gorge Bridge, Earthship. Round trip totalled nearly 3,000 miles.

In one week, the only thing you will be seeing is through the windshield of the car. You need to go to www.mapquest.com and route out your trip. See the distances involved and how long it takes. New Orleans-Philadelphia is 19 1/2 hours non-stop. Add in stops for fuel, food, stretching, and overnight, that is three days in each direction. And that is not stopping to see anything.
Is all of this route necessary in one trip? Could you shorten it? Then go to the tourism websites of each state and order the vacation guide. For TN it is www.tnvacation.com and it is a great guide.Source(s): former travel agent

2 weeks is NOT long enough to see anything of any renown in any of those locations. all you will be doing is traveling from hotel to hotel with zero time for side trips. and even cutting it down to one week and 4 states.. still not enough time.. all you will be doing is driving.
so unless you find stuff within 5 miles of the Highway exit ramp, and spend about 2 hours at said stop don't even bother.
