Should India change the opening pair of Sehwag-Gambhir who have not been much successful lately?
Gambhir in last two years has not scored any century and averaged just 30.31 as compared to his career average of 44.35 in the longest version of the game. Back then two years ago he had the highest average among the then playing cricketers.
Sehwag, in the last two years, has scored only one century and has averaged 37.26, which is way below his career average of 50.64 in Tests.

Sehwag should be retained while Anjikye Rahane should be given a chance in the opener slot replacing Gambhir.

Bit hard on them mate. They soldiered though a couple of tough seasons away against England and Australia, where a lot of the stars struggled. Stability for the upcoming England tour is probably more important than change without a compelling reason to do so, or an obvious replacent waiting in the wings.
One from left field. If there was a change, you'd do a lot worse than give Tendulka a slot back at the top of the order. He'd potentially play a strong sheet anchor role to some of the younger bats. Can't think of anyone as capable as seeing off the shine, age notwithstanding.

They both should be dropped.
What the BCCI need to do is make it so the maximum salary in IPL is at least one million less than it currently is. Many of the players who have become duds have been those who were over paid in IPL. gambhir was paid far too much in at least one of the IPL's, Jadeja was a dud and is more of a dud now since being paid that obscene amount last IPL, Sehwag was paid pretty well as well. If they drop it so players aren't so keen to focus on playing T20 cricket in tournaments like the IPL, then a lot of India's batting and bowling problems in test and odi cricket would not be there.

Yes you are right from your Point of View, but from different people have different views and this is right thing. But from me this shouldn't be done. Gambhir and Sehwag should be given a chance to work out thier skills, both of them are struggling from bad formI, I think both of them should play some Domestic Cricket for Delhi and Open Together and get their form back. In Champions League T-20 niether Sehwag did well nor Gambhir did well. Till they are in Domestic Cricket they should be replaced by Ajinkya Rahane and Shikhar Dhawan, because both of them have done well in domestic cricket and in IPL 2012 and were in Top-10 runmakers

IMO they are going to play to begin with, as openers, as its difficult to tinker with an established pair, against good teams and both England & Australia would come out attacking, with their great fast bowlers.
Maybe couple of matches would give them the chance to either showcase their partnership or let the selectors know that they are not good enough to carry on opening, so the alternatives need to be looked at. Rahane is waiting in the wings for long enough, with M.Vijay & A.Mukund would get a look in.
Gambhir has played at no.3 in ODI's, with Dravid gone, he could be put in at no.3 but C.Pujara did well against N.Z., so he will get his chances, with Tendulkar at no.4, Kohli at no.5.
So there is still an opening at no.6, with Yuvraj being considered again, as he has found a place in the India A team, to take on England, in the tour opener.
So for the time being Sehwag & Gambhir should open, as the opposition is strong enough, with great bowling resources, it won't be easy on the youngsters. If they fail to capitalize on the chances, then team can not afford to have a leaky opening partnership, however senior it is, they'll have to go. Wish them good luck & hope they'll come good, team needs them badly..

Here are a few suggestions (excluding Sehwag and Gambhir):
Ajinkya Rahane & Unmukt Chand
Ajinkya Rahane & Virat Kohli
Ajinkya Rahane & MS Dhoni
Unmukt Chand & Virat Kohli
Unmukt Chand & MS DhoniSource(s): I think it's better to change from a left hand-right hand combination.

Nope they both r specialist openers, there would be no question of tinkering the batting order, regardless of their form.Class is permanent, form is temporary. They have achieved a lot together and it's just the matter of time before they get the things back on track.

my choice will be shewag and abhinav mukund , sehwag is in form during the champions league and Abhinav mukund is performing well in INdia -A against England. so its the right choice and drop gambhir is wise decision .Source(s): watching all updates of indian cricket

i think they should try Rahane there are laods of good batsman lining up ready to step in if otheres fail
trouble is when he gets it right he can destroy a team on his own he played well in champions league the othere day so its hard to tell im talking about sewwahg

Stick with them for now, although they have been struggling recently they are still proven performers with a great record together. They are fine batsman who compliment each other well too.
