Question about rate of inflation?

If the rate of inflation between 1985 and 1995 was 2.65, how much would a shirt that cost $9.50 in 1985 cost in 1995?

    $9.75175=0.0265x9.50+9.50

    roughly 2.7 times

    BUT inflation is very hard to measure
