what does they do there own thing now mean?

I saw one of my mates other week and i asked have you see anyone form our old group at school and she said they do there own thing now.

    It probably means they have found new friends or are more independent now aside from your group

    I think it translates that they (the old school chums) went their seperate ways. They rarely see each other.
