vg's for a 172 tail.?
Will vortex generators heelp much on a cessna 172 with a spotsman STOL kit.
Specifically, will they preserve control athority (rudder as well as elevator) at the reduced STOL speeds in the bottom 40, s?

Micro Aero claims an 8% reduction in stall speed with the full kit. Yes they still work with the STOL kit. Will it get you into the bottom 40s, you already have a 47kt stall/ 40 full flaps even without the STOL! Will they give you more control, yes. Will they take some off the top, probably.
Knots2u also has a full kit , there are probably others. You really want all controls not just tail.Source(s): Years - TL http://www.microaero.com/pages/k_cessna.html

In theory they should, and I have flown a C210 which had them on ailerons, elevators and rudder, and they certainly made a noticeable difference, most apparent in low speed roll control.
Not sure about a C172, but they are similar airfoils and empennages so I am guessing they would have similar effects.
However, on the C210 they made about a 3 knot reduction in cruising speed, so nothing's free!
