    1) Let the no of programs he bought be x

    Total amount spent = 1.50x $

    Sold = ( x-30)

    Sale price = 4$ each

    Total sales = ( x-30)*4 = 4x - 120 $

    (4x- 120) - 1.50x = 30

    2.5x - 120 = 30

    2.5x = 150

    x = 150/2.5 = 60 programs ANSWER

    CHECK

    60 X 1.5 = 90$

    30 X 4 = 120 $

    120-90 = 30$

    2) Dimes = x

    Quarters = x+8

    Value = 0.10x + 0.25( x+8) = 5.50

    0.10x + 0.25x + 2 = 5.50

    0.35x = 3.50

    x = 10

    ANSWER 10 dimes and 18 quarters

    CHECK

    10 X 0.10 = 1.00

    18 X 0.25 = 4.50

    ADD = 5.50 $

    3) Dimes = x

    Nickels = x+7

    Quarters = 37 - ( x + x+7) = 30- 2x

    Value = 0.10x + 0.05( x+7) + 0.25 ( 30- 2x) = 4.70

    0.10x + 0.05x + 0.35 + 7.50 - 0.5x = 4.70

    0.35x = 3.15

    x = 9

    ANSWER 9 dimes 16 nickels and 12 quarters

    CHECK

    9 X 0.10 = 0.90

    16 X 0.05 =0.80

    12 X 0.25 = 3.00

    ADD 4.70 $

    4) Nickels = x

    Dimes = 2x

    Value 0.05x + 0.10*2x = 4.50

    0.25x = 4.50

    x = 18

    ANSWER 18 nickels 36 dimes

    CHECK

    18 X 0.05 = 0.90

    36 X 0.10 = 3.60

    ADD = 4.50 $

  • 1.) As many as he could afford.
